In the summer of 2000, the desire to establish a chapter of Gamma Alpha Omega Sorority, Inc. surfaced among a group of women at Northern Arizona University. These women felt the need for a sorority that would reach out to the community, help those in need, promote the quest for higher education, and provide the small population of Latinas and other minorities at NAU with the option of another minority-based sorority. They found just that. A year later, the 7 founding mothers were well on their way to completing the process of expansion. In the fall of 2001, 4 additional young women joined them to establish the charter group and help complete the process. On the blessed evening of April 12, 2002, those 11 women officially became the Omicron Chapter at Northern Arizona University. Our notable founding mothers are:
Ruby Saccente
Celia Carbajal
Angelica Aceves
Amy Pimentel
Erika Jaramillo
Leanna Olivar
Marisela Felix
The final link to our foundation and establishment was gained with the addition of our charters:
